New date set for the conference

Due to typhoon Hagupit (Ruby),  the  conference titled "The Role of Migrants and their Remittances in Sustainable Development"  originally scheduled last December 6-7, has been postponed to  JANUARY 24-25, 2015.

While we believe that the impact of the typhoon is minimal in Davao City, we cannot risk the lives of our speakers and participants who will be flying during the weekend of December 5-6 morning from Manila , Iloilo, Cebu, Samar, Dumaguete, and other provinces outside Mindanao. Many also preferred to stay with their families during this uncertain time.

We cannot also afford to act as if "business as usual" when we know that some people living in threatened areas have to experience severe conditions. It is not also responsible for speakers and participants get stranded in Davao City as many have other commitments after the conference.

Davao del Sur was  placed under Alert B and this can mean a lot. It might be that the weather is just fine with some rains and thunderstorms but it can also be worse (flooded) We cannot predict what will happen. We chose to take the safe side. We cannot afford to see the participants worrying about their families when the weather gets worse, So we follow the official directives. Be prepared.

We believe that this is the right thing to do. We are ready for the conference but the threat is also real. Better safe than sorry.

I hope you understand our decision.

Participants who have already registered will be contacted soon. The organizers still welcome new participants. Please contact :
